Deconstructing the Russell Tribunal on Palestine
Judge Richard Goldstone, in The New York Times (October 31, 2011): "It is not a “tribunal.” The “evidence” is going to be one-sided and the members of the “jury” are critics whose harsh views of Israel are well known."

kangaroos The Russell Tribunal on Palestine (RTOP) will hold its fourth session in New York, on October 6-7, 2012.

The stated aim of the New York session is to consider
  • “US complicity and UN failings in dealing with Israel’s violations of international law towards the Palestinian people.”

The RToP has no official judicial capacity and styles itself as an “International people’s tribunal” – consisting of “a jury” and hearing “expert witnesses.” But the trial framework is merely a facade. The tendentious conclusions and Israel's guilt are predetermined.

Indeed, the Tribunal’s starting point in New York is “the complicity and responsibility of various national, international and corporate actors in the ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and the perpetuation of Israel’s impunity under international law.”
